Some may think that our freedom comes from the law or legislation. If our government gives us the freedom, they will take away that freedom in a moment notice. Don't be fool for some. True freedom come from God himself. God gives us the free will to choose. If we choose not to follow His way, we will suffer the consequences and we have seen this over and over again. Our Lord Jesus will never imposes on anyone to believe but He will give us the truth. That truth will set us free and free indeed. Amen!

The term "separation", I would think even in a legal sense though I am not an attorney, places a burden on both parties. You separate from me and I separate from you. Yet, historically, almost every decision of the Church vs. the State, the Church has been forced to cease and desist from it's desired endeavor.

If the defenders of "separation of church and state" really want that, then I say, "You can have it!" However, realize that you are just as obligated to stop pushing your atheism on me.

So, that in reality, the entire notion nullifies itself. The Church no longer has to be cast as the offending party. Let those who instigate these court cases practice separating themselves for a change.

WHEN THE NAME OF JESUS, THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD IS NO LONGER ALLOWED IN ANY NATION/CULTURE, THEN DARKNESS COMES IN AND ALL THE EVIL IT BRINGS. I AM A SURVIVOR OF THE HOLOCAUST AND ITS AFTERMATH. MY WORLD AND SECURITY THAT I KNEW AS A CHILD WAS TAKEN FROM US WHEN GODLESS RULERS FORBID THE NAME OF JESUS TO BE SPOKEN, SHUT THE DOORS OF THE CHURCHES, AND SUPPRESS THE FREEDOM OF WORSHIP THE TRIUNE GOD, DARKNESS COMES IN AND ALL THAT COMES WITH IT. I PRAY IN JESUS' HOLY NAME THAT OUR GOD WILL INTERVENE AND JESUS CHRIST BE PRAISED.

I admire and desire Godly leaders who look to God for guidance and inspiration. What I do not want is our government sticking its nose in my church. I don't want my church sticking its nose in my government, either. I think that today's fundamentalist right wingers have a lot of people among them who would act the same way that the Spanish Inquisition did if they were allowed to have their religious beliefs represented in government. A Congresswoman I don't admire said the other day that she thought we ought to allow politics in the pulpit.
That is what we would have if we intermingled religion and politics. This is dangerous. This person wants to use the church elect people to our government? She is nutzo. The church can take a stand on moral issues, but it has no business encouraging people to vote a certain way or supporting candidates.

I am a strong evangelical Christian and I love to go to church, but I see it as my job to train my children up the way they should go, not the school's or the government's. Schools need to do a better job of teaching ethics, but they don't need to be tied to a religion.

That said, I also believe that many of us on the left overreact to things and feel threatened by them when they are not threatening in any way. I am not threatened by the Ten Commandments, a Nativity scene at Christmas, "In God We Trust" on our money or "under God" in our Pledge of Allegiance. I think people who get torn up about these things are being too paranoid.

Our forefathers came from a multitude of Christian backgrounds from strong traditions to those of Deism and I know that many of the people on TV on the right who attribute quotes to our Founding Fathers err and twist their statements just as much as those on the left do.

I believe the government must allow us to worship as we choose or not choose and they have no business establishing a form of Christianity or another religion for us. They escaped all that when they left England. What if they established a brand of Christianity that I did not agree with? What if they established a brand of Christianity that you don't agree with? The government must recognize that our forefathers for the most part believed in God, but they don't want to force one idea of God on our nation any more than they liked that forced on them before they left England.

Freedom of religion may mean freedom from religion for some. I don't agree with that, but it is a choice. Jesus Christ never forced himself on anyone and he said to render unto God what is God's and to render unto Caesar what is Caesar's.

I know this will make several of you angry, but the responsibility of teaching your religion to the next generation is yours, not our government's.

I do believe that when Jefferson made the reference of the "separation of church and state" he was saying that in a letter to the Danbury Baptist Church in Danbury, Connecticut. It had to do with money. In the Oxford American Dictionary they have for church "a building for public Christian worship, the whole body of Christian believers, they bring up the Protestant Episcopal church. Is government afraid of Christians when in fact quite a few of our representatives and senators are Christians also. If indeed there is separation of church and state could it be that it also means spliting a person in two thoughts. Or pitting a person against themselves.

I appreciate your encouragement to a legislative member who is looking out for America & it's people. We need to do more of this to strengthen them to continue against the pressures of the job - amen!!

There is no such thing as separation of church an state! No such idea was in the constitution. Jefferson's writings have been used to twist this idea into court action by activist judges wanting to control religion. I believe that our government is the problem. The first amendment was specifically written to avoid this situation from occurring.

I recommend Garry Wills' "Head and Heart", The Penguin Press, NY 2007. It is a serious work of history, presenting things in a realistic light rarely in line with what many Evangelical Christians imagine. It makes us think seriously about how God used our non-Trinitarian, Deist Founding Fathers to begin this nation and write our Declaration of Independence and Constitution.

God works in many ways, often mysterious to us.

Luthers Gateway to Heaven. "Righteousness from God." This means you never have an excuse for you to pass judgment on someone else or else God's judgment will be on you. Through prayer and God's grace is our answer to salvation.
